Sunnyside Park Redevelopment2007 was a breakthrough year for the redevelopment of Sunnyside Park. Working in conjunction with South Surrey Minor Softball, the City Parks Department finalized a concept plan for the expanded park which received the endorsement of the Softball community in Surrey. In addition to providing much needed improvements in softball facilities and expanded parking at the park, the concept plan also included many family orientated features such as a water playground, expanded play areas, walking trails and a new basketball court. South Surrey Minor Softball supports the emphasis on family activities as this is one of the unique aspects of the park which players, parents and visitor's always comment on. If you had not already noticed work to complete the construction of the new Cranley Drive commenced the week of October 22nd. This work is Phase 1 of the park construction and is to be completed in early 2008. Discussions with the City indicate that Phase 2, which includes the two new diamonds at the east end of the park expansion, the walking trails, play area expansion and the new east parking lot, is to start construction in the Spring of 2008. Phase 3, which is the reconstruction of the four existing diamonds and includes leveling out the slopes on the diamonds and creating the new quad arrangement, is scheduled for Spring of 2009. If all proceeds as planned all of the new softball facilities will be up and running by the 2010 season. Detailed design for the new diamonds is currently being done by the City. Updates for the park design will be forwarded as they are made available.Pitching & Skills Development ClinicsPitching clinics with Ron Clark will be offered again starting January 13, 2008.
