THUNDER STRIKES GOLD: SSWRMSA WOMEN'S TEAM CROWNED 2025 PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONS
South Surrey, BC - July 16, 2025

The South Surrey White Rock Minor Softball Association (SSWRMSA) is celebrating a historic moment as the Women’s Thunder Team brought home gold at the 2025 Softball BC Women’s B Provincial Championship, held this past weekend in Richmond. The Thunder rolled through the competition, going undefeated in a dominant tournament run and capturing the title with a 5-2 victory over the Langley Xtreme in the championship final.

“This is a special group,” said Head Coach Roger Werk, who led the team alongside Assistant Coaches Kevin KielerMark Rehanek, and Team Manager Shelly Werk. “They’ve put in the work all year, supported one another, and competed with heart. This championship reflects their character, commitment, and love for the game.”

From the first pitch to the final out, the Thunder were in control. They posted a perfect 2-0 record in round-robin play, earning the top seed out of 13 teams—and were the only team in the tournament to not surrender a single run in the opening round. Over the six-game tournament, the team scored 44 runs while allowing just 14, thanks to sharp pitching, timely hitting, and outstanding team defense.

One of the standout performances came from Tessa MacLeod, who drove in five RBIs in a pivotal win over the Ridge Meadows Rage. But the victory was truly a team effort, built on consistent play, smart coaching, and a belief in one another.

SSWRMSA President Thomas Bell praised not just the result, but what it represents for the association and its athletes.

“The heart of this team grew up playing right here in South Surrey,” said Bell. “To see these players—many of whom we’ve watched develop since their early days—competing and succeeding at this level is incredibly special. They played with passion, pride, and purpose. This proves that your softball journey doesn’t have to end when minor ball does. There are opportunities to keep playing, growing, and achieving—and now here they are, provincial champions.”

Bell added, “This win speaks volumes about the culture of our association—the strength of our coaching, the support of our families, and the drive of our athletes. We couldn’t be prouder.”

What an incredible way to cap off the season for this committed and hardworking group of players, coaches, and families. Their determination and growth throughout the season were on full display, and they represented SSWRMSA with pride and resilience.

Looking ahead, SSWRMSA will proudly celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2026, marking three decades of community, competition, and development in youth and adult softball. As part of this exciting milestone year, the association is expanding its Women’s program with plans to field multiple teams at various levels, including Intermediate A/B Tier 1, 2, and 3.

These teams will be based out of Softball City and Sunnyside Park, which is set to feature a newly renovated field complete with lighting—further strengthening the association’s ability to support players of all ages and skill levels.

As the Thunder celebrate their golden moment, they’ve also lit the path for future players—proving what’s possible with dedication, teamwork, and heart.

Congratulations to our 2025 Provincial Medalists—GO THUNDER!
