U11 Player Development Program
We are excited to share the structure and plans for our U11 Player Development Program for the upcoming season. Last season, we introduced a new player development program for our U11 age group, which was very successful. We aim to build on this success and further enhance the program next season.
Teams for the U11 Player Development Program:
U11 Rep Thunder 2014
- This team, consisting of players born in 2014, will be formed in September following tryouts.
- They will compete in the Lower Mainland U11 Rep League and participate in various U11 Rep tournaments, including the U11 Canada Day Classic Championship.
- This team will train during the off-season and offer opportunities for interested players not on the team to participate in various training and mini-camp sessions.
U11 Thunder Select 2014 and U11 Thunder Select 2015
- These two teams will be formed through tryouts in May.
- All U11C players born in 2014 and 2015 are invited to attend these tryouts.
- Coaches will primarily be selected from our U11C teams.
- These teams will play in at least two U11 Rep tournaments, including the U11 Canada Day Classic Championship, and participate in many exhibition games against each other, our U11 Rep Thunder 2014 team, and teams from other associations.
- Players will have opportunities to train with and be pickup players by the U11 Rep Thunder team when needed for tournaments and games.
- Players on the Thunder Select teams will also continue to play on their respective U11C teams.
U11 Thunder Select Development Squad
- U11 players not selected for either of the Thunder Select teams will be offered a position on our Thunder Select Development Squad.
- This group will have a dedicated coach and trainers to further develop their skills.
- Players from this squad will have opportunities to train with and be pickup players for the Thunder Select teams when needed for tournaments and exhibition games.
Benefits of Our U11 Player Development Program:
- Our program ensures that all U11 players have the opportunity to participate in higher levels of training and games, particularly those aspiring to play Rep A or B softball at U13.
- All U11 Thunder team coaches will collaborate to ensure the training and development of every player in the program.
- This program also provides mentorship for coaches, with Thunder Select players and coaches continuing with their U11C teams, benefiting all players and coaches, even those not directly participating in the Thunder Select program.
*Note: The Canada Day Classic sells out really fast and there is no guarantee that we will successfully enter all three Thunder teams in the tournament. If this is the case will be arranged for additional game or tournament opportunities.
Our objective is to ensure that no player or coach is left behind or overlooked. Players and coaches desiring to enhance their skills and potentially participate in rep softball will have equal opportunities and the tools for growth, similar to those on the U11 Rep Thunder team. Instead of focusing development efforts primarily on the ~12 players on the Rep team roster, we aim to provide development opportunities for all, ensuring everyone can reach their goals without being left behind.
